Product Pr0n: Smartphones
In this week’s Product Pr0n segment I take a look at three very capable smartphones: the Treo 700w from Verizon, the RIM BlackBerry 8700c from Cingular and the Cingular 8125. While the Treo 700w is a whopping $500, I gotta admit to liking the device. Of course, anyone who knows me knows how much I love Windows Mobile 5. That's because it sucks. Ha ha!
I just got the vx8100. I have a Crackberry through work, so I've got more than I need...
IMHO the Blackberry's are good for people that just need an email/Phone device they can drop and still have work.
If you're a little geeky and want more PDA like functionality (ie run media players, gps, 3rd party tools) then obviously this is not the device for you.
Yeah I have a BB and really dislike the OS/GUI. The "Blackberry Connect" software will allow non-bb units to connect to their companies Blackberry servers, so maybe we will see less reliance on the BB os in the future.
More than anything, I like Windows Mobile 5 cause, since it's Windows, the look and feel are familiar.
The crashes have a familiar MS feel? :) j/k
Palm dropped the ball bigtime by deciding not to use the newer PalmOS, or make any other significant advances in the last few years. Then they shot themselves in the foot by making a Treo for WM, which basically confused the Palm Developer community into thinking the PalmOS was going to be a dead dodo.
All hopes now lie in what Access (the new owner of the palmos) will do with their future Linux Palm OS release.
Meanwhile..I still plug along with my wifi Palm TC.
